5 Good Reasons is a band of five guys having a good time covering great music.

The bands we cover include Matchbox 20, Counting Crows, Kings of Leon, Goo Goo Dolls, Gin Blossoms, 3 Doors Down, Seven Mary Three, Barenaked Ladies, The Badlees, Foo Fighters, and many more.

Matthew, Vocals - Matthew is the newest member to 5GR as the lead singer. He's pretty much been singing his entire life. He was a big choir geek in high school and spent most of his time singing in traditional choral groups. In college, he helped form a semi-professional contemporary a cappella group, Fifth Element, where he gained most of his performing experience. Since then he's been in a few rock bands, most recently Disruptive Joe, continue to hone his craft. By day he's an IT geek, but by night he lives his other passions, music and sports. Scott, Lead Guitar - With his G&L S-500, Scott plays lead guitar for 5 Good Reasons. Scott picked up an electric guitar at age 16 and taught himself through tablatures. He’s been playing guitar ever since, often switching between acoustic and electric guitars. Scott listens to an eclectic mix of music. The bands and artists who have inspired his musical development include Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, and Dave Matthews Band.

Bill, Bass, Harmonica - Bill is described by his fellow band members as “a front man in a bass player’s body”. Unfortunately for Bill, his vocal chords have a range of about 5 notes. The good news is that he loves to play bass! He is a big fan of blues and has previously played in several bands in the Chicago area before moving to the Twin Cities. He also plays some harmonica on occasion and even sings backup vocals on a few songs here and there. Bill has an unexplained love for shirts with flames on them and can be seen wearing them at the occasional gig, much to the chagrin of Chad.

Jay, Drums, Vocals -  Jay is the Drummer for 5GR. A veteran of many area bands and lends his voice not only to many of the harmonies that 5GR is known for but also steps out front to sing a few songs now and then. Jay is the technical expert in the group and is responsible for much of the band’s “sound”. The consummate musician, Jay also plays guitar and bass. His musical influences are from Classical to Metal.  Although he is often seen listening to Sevendust.

Chad, Guitar, Keys - After growing up playing piano, Chad picked up his first acoustic guitar at age 20.  He wears a lot of hats for 5 Good Reasons from ryhthm acoustic and electric guitar with the few lead songs, to background vocals, to occasional gratuitous piano solos.  He enoys a wide variety of music - his iPod currently ranges from Billy Joel to Metallica and quite a bit in between!
